Sunday March 1st

We were on the road from Council Bluffs at 7AM. Good roads and no precipitation. As we went along we ran into some areas where there was obviously a light snow but anything at the side of the road was already melting, and the road crews had already cleaned the highway.

We had good roads all the way to Denton. There are always idiots driving though. We were on the Kansas Turnpike which is a toll highway, the speed limit is 75 and that is what I was doing with no problems. Then we see a State Trooper beside a car in the ditch and a girl getting out of the drivers side. No reason whatsoever for her to have gone in the ditch due to road conditions. About a mile later we see too cars having had an accident, one at least hit the centre divider which is concrete.
Again..no reason whatsoever.

It appears we made a very good decision waiting for the one day. On the way to Denton, we could see all sorts of tracks where cars had left the road and hit the divider. We saw at least three overturned cars, and two overturned travel trailers.

We got to Denton around 5:30 and checked into our Hotel. This is a really nice hotel, the Best Western Premier.

We are debating about tomorrow...the temperature is 36 degrees farenheit and the roads are good. Supposed to stay around 35 or 36 overnight, but some forecasts are calling for drizzle which could make for icy roads. I don't see how when it is above freezing...so we are thinking about being on the road very early like 6AM to miss the morning traffic snarls around Fort Worth. It's either that or wait till around 9AM when everyone is already at work. We're leaning toward early.

Jets won again....awesome!

A picture from our room with the fountain running outside.

Tomorrow if all goes well, we will be at our home away from home. Even though we are a day late, we have plans to see our girls in Mexico Tuesday afternoon. Can't wait!

more later....

About Us

My photo
Every Year for the past few years, Katie and I journey to Pharr, Texas, where we have a mobile home in Paradise Park. We also sponsor three girls in Nuevo Progeso, Mexico, so they can go to school. We travel to Mexico to see the kids, with Sr. Maureen Crosby who runs the program and our friends Ken and Vickey, who are Sr. Maureen's constant helpers. Starting last year we also go by ourselves several times
