Monday March 2nd

We were having a good sleep last night when we discovered someone has set the alarm for 3:40AM! Thanks...thanks alot!

Got up at 5:30AM which is what we were scheduled to do. Had a very good breakfast downstairs. This is one of the best Hotels for the hot breakfast, They will make you an omelet to your liking, they have a make your own pancake machine, scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and all the rest of the things you get at all other motels.

We were on the road by 6:45AM, and good thing we did as there was already quite a bit of traffic. They are building a new overpass on the Fort Worth bypass, so it got very congested due to it being a construction zone. Traffic basically crawled along for several miles. Good part was we probably only lost about 20 minutes. Temperature this morning was 35 degrees F. Last year we were in shorts and had the air on.

The rest of the drive was uneventful, just long. I bought a new Garmin GPS this year, I had a TomTom before and I liked it, but for live traffic they want $60 US, when I only need it for the way down and the way back. The live traffic does not work in Canada. The Garmin promises good live traffic for life at no extra cost. Yeah right! We got one warning of a 5 minute delay when approaching Oklahoma City. When we were stuck in traffic this morning, not a peep. The TomTom was much better in this regard and I might have to go back to it, but I will phone Garmin first as it is on warranty. The other thing I don't like about the Garmin is that it takes much too long to recalculate at times, and at least twice it caused us to go in the wrong direction, before it instructed to make a U turn and go back. One time it was 9 miles one way and 9 miles back. Pretty pathetic!

We arrived in Pharr about 3:30 PM and even though we didn't feel like it, we decided to pick up groceries for supper and breakfast from HEB. For those of you that don't know, it is the major grocery store in this area and it is huge.

Now it is time for unpacking and getting settled. Nice to be here and our renters left our place nice and clean as usual.

We will be in Mexico to see our girls tomorrow at 1PM. They will be so excited, and we will be getting and giving big hugs and kisses.

So getting organized and relaxing tonight.

more later...

and so ends another good day in the Valley...it is 54 degrees here.

Every Year for the past few years, Katie and I journey to Pharr, Texas, where we have a mobile home in Paradise Park. We also sponsor three girls in Nuevo Progeso, Mexico, so they can go to school. We travel to Mexico to see the kids, with Sr. Maureen Crosby who runs the program and our friends Ken and Vickey, who are Sr. Maureen's constant helpers. Starting last year we also go by ourselves several times
